The way I see it is that everyone acts and talks differently in different situations. You don't speak the same way to a small private group of friends as you would to your parents and their friends. That should be your censor based on what type of site you are on. On a service like Twitter you should act as you would in an open public setting. I would never post anything there that I wouldn't say to someones face or in front of a crowd.
